Program I:

Never Hurt Anyone: Life Skills (K--5)

This is a program concerned with the Life-Skills of cooperation, kindness, and respect.  Students are asked to consider the importance of these qualities in their day-to-day living.  During the program, stories are told that describe the creative incentive behind each of the songs.  These threads are represented by a visual that helps explain the cooperative nature of the creative process of songwriting.  Students are taught some American Sign Language and are invited to sing and sign with the songwriters in this fun and interactive learning experience.

Times: 9:45-10:45 a.m. (EST) and 12:45-1:45 p.m.

A pre-event packet including a CD, sheet music, and descriptive booklet will be sent prior to the event and is for in-school use only.

Program II:

The Story Inside: Writing About What You Love (K-5)

This program encourages children to explore what they love and begin to write about those areas.  The song, "The Story Inside," helps illustrate the challenge of this task.  Students are taught some American Sign Language and are invited to sing and sign with the songwriters in this interactive learning experience.  "Walkin' On The Moon," is performed as a group with fun body movements.  The songs convey the idea that it takes risks to create something new.  In final analysis, the songwriters suggest it takes real courage to pursue one's creative dreams.

Program III:

Holding The Hoop In Our Hands: Native American Culture and Ecology (3-5)

In Michele Schricker's song, students are invited to drum along as she explains the significance of the medicine wheel and its connection to the Native American world view.  George will tell stories about his grandfather's teachings in relationship to the Native Americans.  Respect for all living things, the earth, and the importance of ecology are presented.  Students are taught some American Sign Language and are invited to sing and sign with the songwriters in this insightful and interactive learning experience.

Program IV:

Going Up: The Journey of Life (K-3)

In this program, the Schrickers present two catchy songs about growing up.  "Oo Oo Doodily Doo," tells the life-story of a tree from the time it is a seed to the time it reaches old age.  "Up Up Up, Up," tells the story of being a young person and having to look up, reach up, and be lifted up for everything.  During the program, these animated songwriters incorporate body movements and invite the students to sing and move with them in this joyful and interactive learning experience.

Program V:

Musical Metamorphosis: Butterflies and Dragonflies (K-5)

This program features two playful and lively songs, "Butterfly" and "Dragonfly." Each song will be presented using whole body movements and sign language.  In addition, each insect's life-cycle will be presented in pictures and the life-cycle of an insect will be compared to the life cycle of a song. Songwriting stages such as: "The Bright Idea," "Chewing up Data," "Spinning the Tune," and "Taking Flight" will be presented.

Program VI:

Courage & Character: Living Your Life As If Other People Mattered

(3-5)

Songwriters, George & Michele Schricker, talk about courage and characteer through a presentation of two songs, "There’s A Dream," and "Menominee. The songs deal with four people who demonstrated courage and character in their lives. The first song deals with the personages of Rosa Parks, John Muir, and Helen Keller. The second deals with the Potawatomi medicine leader, Menominee. Each of the songs is taught in sign-language to the students and each person is presented as representing particular aspects of courage and character.

Program VII:

Celebrating Change:

Marking Important Times In Our Lives (3-5)

In this program, George & Michele invite the children to honor changes in their lives through a celebration of music and dance! Students will sing and dance to two of George’s original and interactive songs, "The Large & The Small," and "The River Goes Round." The program also explores how other cultures celebrate. As the students work together, they have an opportunity to demonstrate mutual trust and caring in a music experience that is pure fun! A great program for a festive occasion, such as the beginning or the end of the school year, to celebrate achievements, or mark a change of seasons. Requirements: Students will need to join hands and move in a circle dance.
